Tape Transfer is a method of using a transparent tape to adhere the ink of any laser printed material onto it's surface. The result is a film that resembles an acetate copy and if done properly, you don't have to be restricted by the width of the packing tape as this method can be layered.

Materials

Packing tape (Scotch packing tape is a great choice!) A container or bowl at least 2" deep Warm tap water Scissors Your favourite magazine or laser print. (inkjet doesn't work!)

Instructions

  • Place tape onto image.
  • Overlap with more strips by a 1/4" each time depending on size of image.
  • Press and flatten all air bubbles. This is an essential step! Transfer will look blotchy if this step is not done well.
  • Use scissors to trim down to the size of the tape in a shape of your choice.
  • Soak taped paper into the container of hot water for 30 sec before beginning to rub the paper off of the tape. Look to photo for reference.
  • Final result will be an image devoid of glue and resembling a clear film with just the ink from the image.
